(Please note that the degree of compression you can expect to see is dependent upon how tightly compressed the original video file is to begin with. Why are my photos and video files so big?
The higher the visual quality, the larger the resulting file size; but whilst that quality may be necessary for printing, or desirable for video playback locally, it is not essential or often acceptable for online distribution/display.

Social networking sites sometimes have upload restrictions, although you can usually upload any size file and they will automatically undertake the resize. With the vast majority of emails the size of file attachment(s) is/are restricted, and if too large the content is either ‘stripped out’, or the email bounced. All of the photos that you create on your own equipment are likely to exceed those limits.

For social networking sites it will save you a lot of bandwidth usage and wasted upload time, and for email it becomes a viable attachment.
